Grades Issues

Many of you have noted that grades have not been updated in about a month. I recieved a new computer at school to replace my old one, and the program I use to make PDF's of your grades is not on it. I am waiting for the tech guys from the district to install it on my computer.

So, until that time, I have no way of putting the grades up on the website. Just see me and I can show you your grade.

Grades for next week

Everyone has 1 week to make up any missing grades, as grades will be posted next Friday. Please make sure anything you are missing is turned in, and do all those assignments that are sitting in your backpacks.

Tuesday/Thrusday 11/12/09

There is no homework for this week. This is a good time to do make up work or any homeworks you are missing.

For periods 4,6,7,1, for the weekend, you are to make up ALL the problems you missed on the benchmark. Either with a short sentence explaining why you got the wrong answer, or work showing how to get the right answer. Made up problems will replace the missed ones on the benchmark.

"I guessed wrong" is not a good answer to why you missed a problem.

"I added negative 4 and got 6 when it should have been -3" is a good sentence.

In other news, I just realized that there was another computer glitch (why so many) and no one received phone calls for missing homework last week or the week before. Its fixed. If you get a phone call saying you are missing several homework assignments, it means I don't have your tracking sheet, or you have a really low score on it. Turn in your tracking sheet next time you see me. Some points is better than 0.

The grades are now current. Click on the link to see the grade as of today.

Friday 10/16/09

Homework for periods 3,4,6
Finish the 8 equations that were on the board. Show the steps and tell me the answers.

Homework for periods 2,7
Find alternate forms of the formulae.

For Trapezoid: A=½(b1 + b2) x H

If you distribute the ½ and the H to the parenthesis, the equation becomes

A = ½b1H + ½b2H

Then, solving for b1, you subtract ½b2H from each side to get:

A - ½b2H = ½b1H

To get rid of the ½, mulitply both sides by 2 to get

2(a - ½b2H) = b1H

divide both sides by H to get:

2(a - ½b2H)/H = b1

Monday Homework

Homework for periods 1,2,3
In the book, page 300, do numbers 1-14. Substitute into the given functions

When you see f(x) = 2x + 3, then f(0). This just means substitute the "0" in for x, and say what you get.

If you see f(5), substitute "5" in for x. Your equation becomes 2(5) + 3 = 13. So f(5) = 13.

I will try to go over some of the problems tomorrow or the day after in class.

Thursday and Friday we will be auditing our folders and making sure all the appropriate grades are in each of our reports. I will print progress reports and you will check them with work you have in your folders to make sure I have put the correct grade in. With 6 classes, and 40 assignments, and 180 students, I probably made SOME mistake in those 5000 grades. So we will check to find them.

Grade changes

The grades are posted and are current for 1/23/09. The format is different. I was unable to put up the full spreadsheets because each class was approaching 1MB and that was too much for people to have to download. So now there is just your ID number, your grade, and how many points you have in the class.

If you want more detailed info, come see me after school and I can print out your entire grade.

The grading scale is as follows.

A > 90%
B > 80%
C > 70%
D > 60%
F < 60%

citizenship varies, but A/E, B/G, C/S, D/N, F/U. This can go higher for extra effort, or lower for excessive tardies (see tardy policy).

Friday 1/23/09

Homework for periods 1,2,3
Finish the page E-33, changing fractions to percents, and percents back into fractions

For periods 4,6,7
Finish the T-charts.
To find 10%, move the decimal 1 place to the left. Then use that 10% to find 20%, 30%... and so on

For 80
10% = 8
so
20% = 16
30% = 24
40% = 32......

Wednesday, January 21, 2009
